Suggestions for RPG Maker Guild

This is more feedback than a suggestion but was looking at the available themes, while I hadn’t noticed these before, and I did pick one that I liked a bit more, I still think the site needs something that feels more distinctive or something.

I don’t want to say much more, because I think we’ve said it enough, the design on the site feels a bit bland and needs work.

I agree on the “splash/cover arts” thing though. Definitely one of my favorite things of RPG Maker is seeing the new splash arts, to me these are very much part of the identity of the program. I’ve collected a couple of them in artbooks I’ve found just because I like them a lot.

This is your one and only warning. Technically this post is in violation of section 5 of the Terms, but I am leaving it up since it is a new forum and it will serve as an example of what NOT to do.

We have a zero-tolerance for personal attacks of all types. There is no room for nuance or lenience in this rule.

I don’t know about the history you have with the old forum moderators, and that history is completely irrelevant here as well. You might have disliked how the old moderators operated, and I’ve no interest in digging through that history. Please do not bring old beefs to these new forums.

  1. If you disagree with a specific policy, make a write up analyzing the policy and your position on what the fix is. Don’t attack anyone or name names in your frustration.
  2. If you disagree with a moderators interpretation, make an argument like you’re a lawyer. Don’t make it personal.
  3. If you are unsure what the actual interpretation of section 5 of the Terms (or any other section) is, just ask! Always happy to explain.
  4. Posting screencaps of conversations publicly is generally not allowed, and especially so if the purpose is to create drama. Even if you have a good reason, it’s a privacy violation that we cannot allow without permission of the people who were in the conversation.
  5. If you have problems with another user, escalate it to moderators. The second you attack back, you will also be considered in violation of section 5 of the Terms.
  6. If you really just wanna go at it with someone, take if off these forums. That’s not what they are here for.
  7. Pettiness, such as “I am unhappy because someone disagreed with me,” will be a penalty modifier. We will punish petty behavior more harshly than someone who breaks a rule out of good intention.

Now, all that aside, we will try to be as flexible as we can, but these forums are operating under a different world than the old RPG Maker Forums operated in. We have GDPR in the EU and various Japanese regulations that restrict how lenient and how loose we can be in terms of enforcing these rules, and it is my intent, for as long as I am a moderator, to ensure that this GUILD forum remains a calm, pleasant, and low-drama place for sharing of development progress and technique sharing.

Are XP, VX, Ace, MV, MZ, etc., not separated into partitions? It’s quite troublesome to search this way. I suggest creating separate partitions.

To add to this, I think this is incredibly important from a technical standpoint as the different versions are built on different programming languages. This way, the users most able to provide help can focus on RM versions they specialize in.

HI! right, uh, so like, can we have alteast the categorisation of video games project?
And also, did someone already mention this, how about leaderboard as well ?
And while we are at it, could you make ranking of postings and perhaps make some gamification profile of some sort as well? thanks for reading

I think we overall need more categories for this forum.
Like separate subforums for discussing the RPG Maker engine, mods, art, and technicalities.
It is a bit confusing right now.
But I would keep the category that keeps track of the newest or active posts like it does now.

And 100% add some art. Currently, the website does not have a character defining it as an RPG Maker forum. Maybe add some art to the sides and a background with some pixel art, for example.

Wouldn’t this be lovely? something similar.

It really feels cold and corporate right now.

I second that too, and also I would still want an rpg-like system for postings haha

I can assure you Baba, years ago I reported all this to GGG with more proof. And with Fossil present there in the exchange, and so were the offending-admins of the old forum (who were not able to justify their actions). The people at the top know, and have likely made the rules considering all of this.

The moderators don’t need to be made aware of all this, for they may not be able to make rules on their own. At best, they’ll just take this information to the top, but the top already knows… so… it’s meaningless.

Hence, following the harsh warning of the Moderator. Please remove the links & names & images. (Or delete since prior-to-edit versions exist.) To avoid even the smallest risk that we end up losing you from here…

(Edit: If the mod or admin wishes to delete this message in order to clean up the thread. You may feel free to do so.)

None of this is a secret or private, as it is public knowledge and information made publicly available for people to access by all parties involved. All this information is known and public, but per moderator advice, yes, I will refrain from talking about past drama.

This is a new forum and a new beginning. Let the past be past.

Let us continue talking about how to improve this website instead from now on.

I suggest updating your post and toning down your message.

I specifically said no chats unless both parties have agreed. That’s what “the people” means. I see it’s in the Yanfly wiki, but that doesn’t mean both parties have agreed to the public release, and it won’t be tolerated on the GUILD even if it is old information.

In order for chat logs to be posted on the GUILD site BOTH parties must have approved of the public release, AND there needs to be evidence of the permission of the release. No exceptions. You said that both parties have approved of the release of the chats shown on the wiki page, but I see no notice that rises to the level of evidence of approval. It must be equivalent to an active statement of each party saying “I approve”, not just passive allowance.

Also, I specifically said do not bring over the drama, and you’re bringing over the drama. By trying to inform us of the drama, you are literally bringing up the drama. Leave it behind, or I’ll be forced to take action.

This is your last warning about this.

If the people involved are still using illegal code, that’s a matter for the copyright owner to pursue, and please talk to them. We will not be investigating old issues, and copyright issues are outside the purview of the GUILD site.

This is a new forum, and we’re trying not to pre-punish people for old issues. So please stop asking for pre-punishment. And yes, I consider bringing up the issue you have with the Restart-Yanfly drama an attempt to pre-punish the people you disagree with.

I said there was no room for nuance in this matter, and you’re pushing my tolerance mighty hard.

I don’t think it’s the corporate style and lack of artwork that’s the issue. The RMW forums literally have the same aesthetic but people still prefer that.

The layout looks like it was created from a template, looks vertically aligned as if it was designed like modern social media viewed on a smartphone. As a result, the website looks very sparse on widescreen monitors.

The categories on the left-hand side of the screen are not… great. A typical user isn’t going to be searching for language tags. Manual and tutorial tags look more relevant to why a user might want to be on this website.

The links in this screenshot should would be really good to add to the left hand side.

Overall, anything trying to replace the old forums should be designed to accommodate the large variety of discussion topics surrounding game dev. It’s a multi-faceted field encompassing an extreme variety of skills. The current setup would work if it was a smaller field hinging on fewer skills, but the RMW forums have an enormous number of sections and subsections for a reason.

Who mods the mod exactly ? “Trying my patience”.. , “last warning…” “i suggest toning down your language”… aren’t these threats ? If ur gonna ban him just ban him.. I severely dislike this sort of tone from admins..

Hey, I am sorry if you don’t like my tone.

I am trying to be lenient here as these forums get off the ground without just jumping into bans, and am trying to use such responses to set the ground rules for what is acceptable behavior.

The Terms of Service for the GUILD are quite a bit different from the old RPG Maker Forums, and I want to give people an opportunity to learn and adjust their behavior before taking stronger actions.

My post now relies entirely on public sources, including screenshots of public discord servers chats and Yanfly’s own public linked responses viewable today by anyone.
I also deleted the post linking to the Lunatic Discord server to prevent further drama and keep the discussion constructive.
If this material is still deemed inappropriate, you may delete the post.

This will be considered acceptable for now, due to the length of time that those messages have been made public.

Thank you for your response to my requests.

The GUILD’s moderation needs to follow stricter compliance with various legal frameworks than the old forums, and I know that will be a learning curve for many. Especially given Japan’s very strict laws surrounding what constitutes harassment, slander, and libel.

And when I say ‘strict’, I mean that they’re very broad and incorporate a lot of speech that is protected speech in other countries. But the GUILD is run according to Japanese law, and any form of negative speech about another person is generally grounds for moderation under this framework. It doesn’t matter if your comment is true or false. Please be very careful in how you talk about others from now on.

Thank you. Now, I’m more curious to know if the forum owners are considering a design change, or adding a feature that lets users switch to a more thematic website style fitting the RPGM atmosphere.

I bet some fans would happily provide art for free. It shouldn’t be too complicated to change some window styles and backgrounds to make people feel more welcome.

Coming from other forums, I think a big drawback here is how plain and empty it feels. Don’t get me wrong, it is functional and pretty well done, but I think many miss the thematic aesthetics that fit the RPGM theme.

[QUOTE]The layout looks like it was created from a template, looks vertically aligned as if it was designed like modern social media viewed on a smartphone. As a result, the website looks very sparse on widescreen monitors.{/Quote]

I think some of the design choices come from Japan, where everything is very mobile-friendly and busy. It would be most welcome to see design choices made for PC users, including ultrawide users, such as auto-wide adjustments/settings for windows.

Would be lovely if windows auto-adjust and use empty space more efficient to avoid this

I also noticed that using the quote system is very confusing. I cannot figure out how to quote certain posts. I also have issues inserting quotes into my comments because it adds a grey box that surrounds text I do not intend to quote, which makes it hard to edit and manipulate.

Personally, I prefer it if the text I reply to or quote is visible in my post, just like how quoting works on the majority of other forum sites.

Now THAT is out of my hands!

It’s been a popular topic in other threads, so I think the community just needs to keep bouncing ideas for what they’d like to see the site evolve into over the coming weeks is the best thing.

It will give the ops team information to work with when planning what (if any) changes they are considering.

I actually disagree a bit on being against the vertical design. I think it works well. With text you usually want to break long lines to make them easier to read and follow. Not saying that exactly how it is is perfect, but I wouldn’t like if in an ultrawide monitor showed text all the way from left to right, even if it’s only 80 or 70% of the width. It’d be kinda painful to read.

I also don’t like ultrawide myself, but whatever.

(BTW, I have zero proof but I’ll gamble and say this forum’s template is made by a Western person, yes Japan uses phones a lot but so do Westerners, most things are developed to accommodate phones).

About categories and tags, you can edit these and there’s much more than what you can see by default. I think the default ones should be adjusted definitely, but eventually you might want to point out to users that they probably want to customize these things to their liking.

I don’t know which of these were added recently, but yeah. They exist.

I think I am starting to notice the forum getting flooded with self-promotions. It is not a bad thing, but I think we need separate categories, or else we won’t see anything other than just “Check my game on Steam.” pretty soon.

Afaik, Showcase is for games, Plugins is for… plugins, Resources is for graphic/audio assets.

Then each topic should have the corresponding tags for what engine is used.

The subcategories already exist. IDK if it’s that they’re not being properly used.

if you just click the RPG Maker category it gives you everything together. I like that because it’s easier to check all new posts in bulk too.
