Hi there! I’m trying to figure out how to input a Day-Counter into my game. Just 1 to 99 days.
I don’t want a day/night cycle or hours or anything, just days. Unfortunately I’m having trouble finding any resources for this.
Ideally I would like it so every time the player goes to bed or gets KOd, it turns to the next day. But I’d also like to have events that happen on certain days e.g. Day15 or Day60.
I’m really sorry if this is a silly question, but I’m fairly new at this and just want a hand. If anyone has any ideas or knows a way to do this I would be really grateful! I’m using MV if that helps at all?
Since you only need days, I think I’d just use a variable. Make one called Day and set it to 1 with Control Variables at the start of the game, since variables start at 0. Then make a common event called Next Day that adds 1 to Day, along with anything else you want to happen overnight like a fade out or Recover All. Your bed event and your KO can both call it with the Common Event command, so the day change only lives in one place.
Your Next Day common event could look something like this:
◆Fadeout Screen
◆Control Variables:#0001 Day += 1
◆Recover All:Entire Party
◆Fadein Screen
And the bed event just needs:
◆Common Event:Next Day
For things that happen on certain days, event page conditions have a Variable option, but it only checks “or above”. What I’d probably do is put the Day 15 stuff on a page with Day 15 or above, then add a page after it with Day 16 or above that goes back to normal. The highest numbered page whose conditions are met is the one that runs, so the Day 15 page only shows up for that one day. Inside an event you can also use a Conditional Branch with Day equal to 15.
How does the player get KO’d in your game? If it’s a battle you start from an event, Battle Processing has a Can Lose checkbox, and the If Lose branch is where you could call Next Day. Random encounters go to Game Over on a loss though, so that part might be trickier.
