For some reason, the RPG Maker MV editor seems to randomly crash, which leads to some work usually being lost. It seems to only crash when a menu (i.e. database, event editor) is opened or closed.
I have already tried the following to resolve it:
Updating/Restarting my computer [Windows 11 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-13700F (2.10 GHz)]
Applying the 4GB patch
Updating NW.js to the latest version
Uninstalling and reinstalling RPG Maker MV
MV is not using too much memory, either. Does anyone know any possible fixes?
Which Windows 11 version are you on? There’s a Steam thread from this year where people on 25H2 are getting MV crashes from opening and closing the Event Editor, and it sounds a lot like yours:
Nobody there has a confirmed fix yet, but what they’re trying is turning off every overlay (Steam, Discord, Xbox Game Bar, Nvidia/AMD) and setting Windows power to max performance. I’d also check that the project isn’t inside a OneDrive or Dropbox folder, and maybe whitelist MV in your antivirus, since both of those have been tied to editor crashes before.
The other thing I’m wondering about is the CPU. Intel’s 13th and 14th gen desktop chips had an instability issue that could cause random crashes, and the fix is microcode 0x12B, which comes through a BIOS update from your motherboard maker. It could be worth checking your BIOS version.
That fix only slows down silicon degradation. Those chips were manufactured improperly. They will all eventually go unstable - it’s just a question of whether it takes 1 year or 7 years or 15 years. Props to whoever that guy was that spotted that 90% of bug reports over a 6 month period were Intel 13th and 14th gen chips, despite AMD Ryzens now commanding almost 50% of the gaming market.
I personally would turn off all the new security stuff in Windows Defender and do an OCCT stability test when the computer is idle. If it catches anything or improves anything, great. If not, you partially ruled out some possible culprits.
