RPG MAKER 3 on PS2 is a cruel Joke on PC users

For decades RPG Maker was mainly a 2D RPG maker but on the Playstation 2 they experimented with 3D graphics (with mixed results) the character models in the engine looks fine despite not being able to use most of them as playable characters.

Despite growing up as a Console Peasent (joking) this should’ve also been released on PC.

There would’ve been pleanty of cool mods and DLCs

a 2D Fitst Person Shooter RPG Maker would’ve also been a plus.

I am excited for the 2.5D RPG Maker that’s coming out soon. maybe it’ll allow me to make my dream Fallout clone.

please dont get your hopes up, with everything shown theres so many visual bugs and these are inherent to Unity until you spend 5 seconds changing the project settings, u2u also seems to close itself out of unity as well so it’s not like as of right now you can just use the ease of use editor then swap to Unity like Unite (which was also a headache) . I have the Ps2 RM, but I remember it being super duper limiting

Yeah the limitations sucked.

If it was on PC we’d have mods getting around the limitations.

I actually have rpg maker 3 on the PS2. which it had limitations. it did breed creativity especially if you played rpg maker 2, and the PS1 rpg maker.

I have all the psone/ps2/gb/gbc/gba/DS/3DS versions including the Japanese ones.

(I have a vast collection of Game makers praying I’ll find the perfect one)

The perfect RPG maker would be an Anime FPS/3rd person shooter with Doom like graphics.

Something a little bit like Shining the Holy Ark? That would awesome too. I think there’s a game in development call Eulogy of an Insect that has a few FPS Doom like sections, I think I seen on r/rpgmaker someone making a Doom RPG too.

Need to buy a new webcam, had a lot of trouble taking this picture and ended up taking it upside down. But these are what I got.

Messed up the order but right side is “SNES” (Super Famicom, whatever). 2D. Middle is first PS2 one, 3D. Then leftmost is MV Trinity for Switch, back to 2D.

It’s definitely interesting that despite it all, RPG Maker even on consoles came back to 2D. With RPG Maker 2 and 3 (or RPG Tsukuru 5 and 6?) being the only ones that ventured into 3D.

The console versions are mainly ‘gateway drugs’ tons of cool sound and music assets though.

They’re kinda useless but I still love them. My one gripe is how similar to the PC versions they are since at least Fes. And uh these last ones (again, since Fes, maybe since DS and DS+) they have some sort of a glaring issue.

Like, I mostly tried out the free Player for 3DS, and uhh… one thing I noticed is that the stat scaling when you level up was busted. You only give characters one base stat, and the level acts as a multiplier, so… especially the lower levels have very awkward stat curves. Yes, this annoyed the heck out of me.

Then MV Trinity, on Switch at least, it froze for almost couple seconds every time you open the menu. The load times are also not great either. I had to say that MV Trinity allowed you to make games that felt worse than the Kemco budget titles (a bit mean, tho Revenant Saga was fun! Need to beat it someday). Like, that’s the kind of game I wanted MV Trinity to let me make, pretty much, except for the 3D battles of course, I can live without that.

Then the classic console RM versions, I don’t have anything against them, I can assume most of the setup jank comes from heavy limitations (create map, then create event code, then assign event code to event, then place event in map…).

It’s super hard to write dialog with a gamepad, but at least in PS2 you can plug any USB keyboard.
