Honestly I think it’s a great little tool, it works nicely and is a simple and quick way to make quick tilesets, though I do think it’d be nice to have a “Clear Image” option for when you add an image for the tileset at the moment you can only add images but they kinda stack but that’s really the only gripe I have. Good Job <3
Hmm, so it’s a very basic tilemapper? It has less functionality than the RPGMaker mapper, but from a certain point of view it’s just about sufficient for automating simple copy-paste operations from one tilesheet to another.
I don’t think it’s very likely I’d use this often, but I do have some feedback.
The UI doesn’t fit in smaller windows. The toolbar in the right panel gets scrunched up and is barely usable.
When you choose “Use existing tileset” for the initial state, I think the chosen file should also be automatically added as a source. That would make it easy to revert unwanted changes. (I realize there’s undo, but I’d assume the undo stack is limited, and even if it’s not, repainting what was originally there might sometimes be easier than undoing 50 actions to get back to where you were before – especially if you want to keep some of those actions.)
The templates are pretty limited. MZ allows for 4 different tile sizes, and one of those is identical to VX(Ace) format. 2000 and 2003 are probably pretty niche by now, but they have their own unique layout, as does XP. And that’s just tiles – what about icons? Characters? Faces? Balloons? Side-view battlers? These are ultimately not that much different from a tilesheet, after all. Supporting them all might be a bit much, and characters are kind of extra-complicated, but I think at least icons would be extremely useful to add as a template (and MZ supports 5 different sizes there as well).
It would probably help if you could move already-placed tiles around, or erase them, or both.
Lastly, for A1-A4 sheets I think it would be more useful to set the grid size at half what it is currently – 24x24 for actual MV tilesets, for example. This could be useful for A5 and B-E too, where you might actually want to swap between the two grid sizes in a single sheet. (Why, you ask? To build up pre-baked autotiles out of the individual subtiles – perhaps you have one place where you want an autotile that’s usually below characters to be star, so it has to be a separate tile.)
