Title says it all. I’m trying to make an accessory that gives the actor a permanent ATK and DEF buff when equipped. Additionally if there is a way, I’d like to know how to apply it twice (for a future accessory down the line)
Welcome to the forums OshioStarr!
For a flat bonus, the Armor tab has a Parameters box at the bottom. Type the ATK and DEF values there and the actor keeps them for as long as the accessory is equipped, no state or common event needed. If you want a percentage instead, add a trait and pick Ability → Parameter → ATK, then set the rate.
On applying it twice, do you mean wearing two of them at once, or one future accessory that gives double? For two at once, MV hands every actor a slot for each entry in Types → Equipment Types, so adding a second Accessory entry there gives everyone a second accessory slot. Flat parameters from both pieces add together and Parameter traits multiply with each other, so either way they do stack.
Thank you for the reply. What I meant was the built in “Buff” system of the game, usually only accessed through skills on the Effects list.
Ah, the actual Buff system won’t hold for that. Buffs sit on the battler with a turn counter that ticks down each turn, and they’re all wiped when the battle ends, so there’s no way to keep one alive off an equipped piece in stock MV.
The math is reachable though. Each stack is a flat 25% on the parameter and it caps at two stacks, so one buff is 125% and a double buff is 150%. A Parameter trait on the accessory set to those numbers lands on the identical value and it holds for as long as the piece is worn.
The part you’d lose is the little buff arrow on the status screen. If that’s really what you’re after, a troop event on turn 0 with a script call like $gameActors.actor(1).addBuff(2, 99) would put a real buff up at the start of a fight, though you’d be adding that to every troop and gating it on whether the accessory is equipped.
The parameters work exactly how I wanted it to, and I think I’ll do fine without the arrow icon. Thank you for the help!
