Weapon Animation on Magic Attack

Normally, the RM system displays weapon animation when an attack skill is set to “Physical Attack”.

I am wondering if there is a way to make attacks classified as “Magic Attack” or “Certain Hit” display a weapon animation as well.

Alternatively, is there a plugin that enables the display of weapon animations for Magic Attack?

Inside rmmz_objects.js, the weapon sprite isn’t actually tied to the Hit Type. Game_Actor.performAction only calls performAttack() (the motion that shows the weapon) when the action is the actor’s Attack skill. Every other skill gets the “spell” motion if its Skill Type is listed under Magic Skills in the System tab, or the generic “skill” motion otherwise. I’m wondering if the physical skills you’ve seen swinging a weapon are set as an Attack Skill through a trait, or if a battle plugin is handling that part.

For a plugin, Coyotecraft has a small free one that does this. Add <useWeapon> to a skill’s note box and the actor does their attack motion with the weapon instead of the spell or skill motion, whatever the Hit Type is:

Right click → Save As into your js/plugins folder.

One thing to watch, it overwrites performAction completely, so if you’re running other battle plugins it might clash depending on load order. If you’re already using VisuStella Battle Core, you can do it in the skill’s action sequence instead with MOTION: Motion Type set to attack (or swing, thrust, missile) and Show Weapon? turned on.

Thanks for the reply; I’ll check things out as you suggested.

Over 95% of my game uses VS plugins, so it might be a default setting of the VS plugin.
