[MZ] Ring Menu — Animated Circular Menu with Orbiting Icons & Party Selection

Hey everyone!

I’d like to share Ring Menu, a plugin for RPG Maker MZ that turns the main menu into a rotating ring of icons around your character.

Instead of navigating a vertical command list, you rotate commands to the front. When a command needs an actor, a second ring appears with your party members’ character sprites.

What it does

The selected item sits at the bottom of the ring, with its name underneath. Items shrink and fade toward the back, passing behind the player to create a sense of depth.

  • Circular command navigation: Menu commands appear as icons, with configurable horizontal and vertical radii.
  • Party selection: Choose characters for Skill, Equip, Status and Formation through a separate actor ring.
  • Smooth transitions: Choose fade or expanding spin entrances, plus Linear, Ease Out or Ease In Out rotation.
  • Selected item effects: Add a pulse or glow, or disable the extra highlight.
  • Walking sprites: The selected actor can play its walking animation.
  • Formation support: Swap party members with a highlight showing the pending selection.
  • Visual customization: Configure background blur and brightness, disabled command styling, fallen actor tints, labels and rotation sounds.
  • Automatic sizing: Allow the ring radius to grow as more commands or party members are added.

How you use it

Install Takki_RingMenu.js, enable it in the Plugin Manager and open the main menu normally. The standard setup needs no script calls.

  • Left / Up: Previous item.
  • Right / Down: Next item.
  • OK / Cancel: Confirm or go back.
  • Mouse / Touch: Tap an item to select it, then tap it again to confirm.

Custom commands and compatibility

The plugin uses RPG Maker MZ’s menu classes for selection logic and preserves the original menu command handlers.

You can assign icons to additional commands through the Command Icons parameter using their command symbols. Unlisted commands receive a configurable fallback icon.

It uses your project’s existing IconSet and character graphics, with no external plugin dependency. Plugins that replace the menu scene or its windows may need compatibility adjustments.
