[MZ] Hedgerow puts small animals on your maps that run from the party, all drawn in code

Hedgerow is an RPG Maker MZ plugin that fills a map with the animals that would live in a place like it. Rabbits graze on the green, squirrels forage at the foot of the trees, mice run along the base of a wall to their holes, lizards bask on the rocks, crabs sidle on the sand and a cat sleeps by the fireplace. After dark come hedgehogs, foxes, badgers and snails.

There is nothing to place and no events. When a map loads, the plugin reads it once (walls, trees, rocks, sand, fireplaces) and decides who lives where. MZ’s own Outside and Inside tilesets work with no setup. On your own tilesets you mark trees, rocks, sand and hearths with a terrain tag.

Each family runs from the party its own way. A rabbit sits up, thumps a hind foot and bolts with its white tail showing. A squirrel runs to its tree and climbs out of sight. A hedgehog rolls into a ball. A mouse dives into its hole and peeks out later. A crab raises its claws, backs off sideways and digs into the sand.

Day, dusk and night follow the screen tone by default, so a day and night plugin that tints the screen works as it is. A switch or an hour variable works too. The 44 coats in 13 families are drawn in code when a map loads, as smooth outlined illustrations rather than pixel art, and you can add your own coats from three colours.

The code was written with AI tools and tested in the engine. It ships no image files. It costs $12.99, and $9.09 in the itch Halloween sale from 25 October 17:00 UTC.
