Been working on trying to keep this adorable little guy looking like a sprite rather than actually modeling him. Alas the camera angle will make animating a nightmare, so this version is never gonna be in the game.
I don’t mean to sound dismissive, but things like that are why my art style has evolved to be simpler and more utilitarian. Only when I do full-size illustrations, then an asset would take 8 hours worth of effort.
I think especially in the design phase I might try multiple things, and discard a lot, so usually I start simpler. Basically as Gensun said. I think especially when you still haven’t figured all things out it’s better to get dirty, and not polish much. Leave the polish for when you’re sure about what you’ve got. Otherwise go ham!
Later on, especially after figuring out style, I think next designs take less effort, since I have the rules more clear.
But yeah. Losing progress? Check. Discarding progress myself? Also check!
I redo music recordings a lot, I like making ideas but I still struggle with the finalizing arrangement and mix. That’s why I do drafts of all the soundtrack first and practice finishing techniques separately on the side, like just with a couple songs until I feel committed enough. That way I don’t get held up as much by my finalizing problems and I don’t have to be afraid of starting over a recording, but I still do dread a bit doing over big arrangements though
