I know RPGMZ has classes and stats, but the game I’m making is more of a survival horror game, and I wanted to have a stat distribution system at the start of the game when naming your character.
From my understanding this should be doable without plugins, using variables and a Loop in the event that runs right after Name Input Processing.
Make a variable for each stat (Agility, Sense, Strength) plus one for Points Left. Inside the Loop, a Show Text can show the points remaining with \V[n] (n being the variable ID), then Show Choices lists the stats and a Done option. Choice text supports text codes too, so something like Agility \V[1] shows the current value right in the list. Picking a stat can open another Show Text with its description and a second Show Choices for Add Point, Remove Point, and Back, with Conditional Branches to keep Points Left and the stat from going below 0. Done can Break Loop once Points Left hits 0.
For the formulas, you can calculate them with Control Variables right before the description shows. For example Skill Chance = Agility, then Skill Chance *= 10, then Skill Chance += 25, and the description can say Skill Chance \V[n]%.
For the look, swapping img/system/Window.png for a darker framed window skin might get you close to that style (it changes every window in the game though), or you could use Show Picture to put a panel image behind a message window set to Transparent. The one part I think would need a plugin is having the description update while hovering over each stat in the list, since Show Choices doesn’t have a help window like that. Picking the stat first and then showing its description is the closest I can think of without one.
I have a plugin that can do something pretty close to what you’re looking for. It includes a stat distribution/leveling scene where the player can spend points to increase custom stats, and you can configure the stats, costs, formulas, etc.
There are a few different versions of the scene too: one for stats only, one for skills only, and a multipage scene that can handle both. The scenes are customizable, so I’m pretty confident you’d be able to get something close to the setup you’re looking for.
I’m the developer of it, just to be transparent. It’s a paid plugin, but you can take a look here and see if it fits what you’re trying to do:
You could definitely also build a simpler version with events like Baz described, but if you want a dedicated stat system and distribution screen, this might save you quite a bit of setup.
