Using a different style in Baz Dialogic Link causes portrait overlaps

I keep relying on your help.

When using only the main title, no issues occur. However,

when I set conversation styles for each character and design the Timeline,

the portrait images overlap.

(It’s like the character conversations in Undertale.)

I think you might be hitting a bug in Dialogic itself. The plugin still bundles Dialogic 2.0 Alpha 16, and that version leaves the previous speaker’s portrait under the new one when characters have their own styles (portrait overlapping · Issue #2458 · dialogic-godot/dialogic · GitHub). It was fixed in Alpha 17.

I applied the fix so please update the addon and see if that worked.

Thanks for tracking this down to the Dialogic version. Updating the addon and retesting with per-character styles sounds like the right next step.

Thank you!

I’ve tested it and confirmed that the portraits overlap without any issues.

During testing, though, I noticed that text style changes seem to briefly load the previous setting. Is this by design?

For example, if:

Character A has font size 30

Character B has font size 15

then when the timeline changes from A to B, it briefly looks like the text is still at A’s font size of 30.

From what I’ve found, this part isn’t from the update. It’s how Dialogic changes styles. When the next line is from a character with a different style, Dialogic throws away the old text box and builds a new one for that character. Before the new line starts typing, it puts the last line back into the new box for a moment. So for a split second you might see A’s old line before B’s line starts.

What I can’t tell yet is what you’re seeing in that moment. Is it A’s old words, or B’s new words showing at size 30? A short video would help a lot.

Also, how did you make the two styles? From a preset, or by making one inherit from another style? If both styles inherit from the same style, I think I can make Dialogic keep the same box and just change the size, so nothing flashes.
