Tile Map Alchemist - Map Generator for MV & MZ

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a tool I’ve been working on called Tile Map Alchemist - a customizable map generator built specifically for RPG Maker MV and MZ.

What it does

Instead of staring at a blank canvas every time you need a new map, Tile Map Alchemist lets you generate fully customizable maps at the press of a button - anything from a tiny scene to a massive 255×255 world. You can shape the terrain, carve out paths, paint biomes, and fine-tune the details until it feels right, then export it directly into your project.

Features

  • Supports most MV/MZ tilesets
  • Multiple map types: Outdoor, Dungeons & Overworld
  • Direct export to RPG Maker MV & MZ projects
  • Generate maps of any size, up to giant 255×255 worlds
  • Flexible topology tools for sculpting terrain and layouts
  • Waypoint-based path generation for natural-looking roads and trails
  • Create your own custom biomes and apply them wherever you like

Why use it?

It’s not meant to replace hand-crafted map design - the goal is to give you a strong foundation to build on. Rather than starting from scratch, you get a fully formed layout that you can refine, decorate, and make your own.

No AI involved

Just to be clear - this runs on carefully designed procedural algorithms, not AI models or external data. That means every result is predictable, fully customizable, and entirely under your control.

Would love to hear what you think, and happy to answer any questions about how it works!

It’s an amazing tool. I’ve played with Wave Form Collapse Functions to generate maps, but mine always came out kinda…noisy? Having the precision of a manual brush target specific areas is way more sophisticated. These are the kinds of tools I wish the map editor had 10 years ago. Because, of course, there’s only so many viable tile set combinations in the first place. Why isn’t there a “smart” brush already?

It’s just a shame these kinds of tools are only as useful as the tilesets themselves. I do love MV’s tiles, they’re probably my favorite tiles of any engine. It’s just, once you move away from the forests, you realizes there’s not as much to the “sets” for dungeons and caves besides walls and floors.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the tool solves another issue specific to Rpg Maker MV and MZ, which is that whoever arranged the tile sheets didn’t put the corresponding tiles together. They grouped the stairs tiles with other stairs, instead of grouping the lava tiles together with the other lava that you’re actually going to use together. There ends up being more effort in selecting tiles than there ought to be.
But with a tool like this, the tile palette is irrelevant.
