Hi everyone,
I recently developed a browser puzzle game called Fruit Box.
Play it here: fruit box
The core rule is simple: players drag a rectangle over numbered apples on a 17×10 board. If the numbers inside the rectangle add up to exactly 10, those apples are cleared. Each cleared apple is worth one point, and each round lasts 120 seconds. The goal is to clear as many of the 170 apples as possible before time runs out.
The current version includes:
- Mouse, touch, and keyboard controls
- Hint, pause, sound, and color options
- English, Japanese, and Korean UI
- A solvable-board generator: every board has a verified full-clear sequence, rather than only having a total divisible by 10
I am now thinking about how to expand the game without losing its quick, easy-to-understand core loop.
Some directions I am considering:
-
Challenge objectives
Move limits, target scores, required numbers to clear first, or endgame puzzle challenges. -
New board elements
Obstacles, special apples, value-changing tiles, or chain reactions. My concern is adding too many rules and making the basic “draw a rectangle and make 10” idea less clear. -
New game modes
Daily fixed boards, same-board time trials, an untimed strategy mode, random-event modes, or multiplayer/co-op competition. -
Progression and feedback
Combos, achievements, leaderboards, replay sharing, or unlockable rule variations.
I would especially appreciate feedback on these questions:
- Should I prioritize new mechanics, or create more goals and modes around the existing mechanics?
- For a lightweight puzzle game with rounds of about two minutes, what would make you want to keep coming back?
- Are there any familiar puzzle-game systems that could work well with this rectangle-selection and sum-to-10 format?
Please feel free to try the game and share any thoughts. I would also appreciate feedback on anything that feels unclear or uninteresting in the current version. Thank you!
