Not much else to say. Erasing years of knowledge and resources with a “Repost if you want, we don’t care” attitude is the most foolish thing that has happened this year. Way to make sure I’ll never invest in another maker.

I have no idea how the community is going to bring this website up to the helpfulness of the old forums. A decade+ of resources is impossible to migrate in the few months we have.

Well, they’ve been doing bad decisions for years now. From hosting AI generated resources for sale, to the release of the still bad AGM, Unite, and now U2U, which is yet another unity hijack nobody asked for, so I guess we can safely say we could’ve seen it coming.

Personally I would advice simply not to. Go to any other site and host your stuff there. GGG is not deserving of being kept alive by the community they treat like shit.

Any good suggestions? Coding help was the star of the forums, something I benefited from greatly. Would appreciate any directions

Sorry that I can’t make any better suggestions. This news dropping without as much as a 2 weeks notice has hit us all in the gut. I guess we’ll have to see what comes out on top? Personally I hope rpgmaker net will make a big comeback. Benny has brought that site back from the dead and I think it has a forum too.
Personally I just want to avoid being on here by any means necessary.

I suppose they wanted to unify the forums that were previously separated by language.
To be honest, I also found it inconvenient that the forums were split by language.
I just wish they had at least kept an archive.
For now, since I saved the Japanese version on the Wayback Machine, at least some of it should remain…

Yeah it’s not so much the shutting down that’s the issue here. It’s the terrible design of this site, the inclusion of AI, and the denial of preserving decades of knowledge and resources to “unify the forums”.
It’s not going to unify anything. People are mad, and people will splinter off into any other site before coming here. You can already see people refusing to even make an account here, let alone repost their scripts, plugins and resources. It’s a terrible decision no matter how you look at it.

It seems forums were quite active overseas…
In that case, I can understand why people feel a sense of helplessness about them being shut down.
In Japan, although there was a period of activity, it has recently become as barren as a sandy beach, so I think very few people even know that the forum is closing.
Moreover, in Japan, there is a large posting site run by a different individual for materials and plugins, and it was common practice to just post links to that forum rather than hosting resources there. This might be another reason why there isn’t much concern about losing resources.
In fact, I only found out about the forum’s closure through a Discord server I run for RPG Maker, where a member informed me…
I apologize for judging the situation based solely on our own culture, despite the fact that everyone has their own circumstances.

Yeah, the forum is like… THE place to go for anything related to rpg maker in the western world. And that AI generated response from the GGG person doesn’t spark hope either. Thanks for your understanding tho. Well, I said my piece I suppose. I’m off to literally any other place.

So I’m not the biggest fan of RMW for a number of reasons, so in a way I’d like to see this succeed.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it will because these “forums” are clunky to navigate and are generally less feature-rich then the RMW forums. The user experience is inferior overall. Please take a look at how successful forums are structured and try to replicate those features.
Even Gemini thinks you (GGG) have an uphill battle ahead of you with this self-publishing endeavor. I get wanting to cut out the middle man, which Komodo most certainly was, and have full autonomy, but as things stand now, these forums are barely usable.
My prediction is that people will just migrate to other third party sites or discord servers for western rpgmaker support–I don’t need to link, promote, or even mention them–people know what they are.
So good luck with this, I really mean it. But you’re going to need to make a better attempt at providing a suitable replacement. Get people willing to help make this actually useful and usable. It definitely has a long way to go and the community (known for knee-jerk reactions over a lot of things) already seems to have a negative opinion of this forced migration.

I also feel that the UI and layout are difficult to use.
I don’t mean to be rude to the admins, but it gives the impression of being AI-generated.
It’s not about saying “don’t use AI,” but as Aesica mentioned, I think we need to study successful forums.
It’s fine if translations are done automatically, but I’d like to be able to see the original text before translation. (Although the original text is included in the email notifications.)

NOBODY wants to migrate here. The UI design to this absolutely website is awful (Everything feels so confusing to click/unorganized) and the AI-generated response is really making me lose hope in everything here.

We’ve already known that GGG has been taking more & more publishing responsibilities upon itself. Thus, the older publisher, running the forums, losing it.
This was expected.
It is completely sensible, that if you have a middle-man company increasing the steps required to reach & listen to your users. That to grow, you have to eventually cut them off. That cutting them off & taking that responsibility yourself, in order to be closer to your users, is an admirable thing. And we should be optimistic and patient. ( ´ ▿ ` )
Not be rowdy & dismissive. Of the very people who gave us the tool that we love & use every day.

I actually ran the GGG response in this thread through both ChatGPT and Gemini, and asked if it was an AI-generated response:
- ChatGPT: About 50% likely it was AI or AI-assisted, but also likely it’s just generic corporate copypasta.
- Gemini: Seemed to pretty firmly say no, that it more closely matched what might be a bland corporate response translated from Japanese to English.
If I had to guess, I’d say it’s just corporate PR speak rather than an AI generated slop response.
