I was a bit confused on the wording on the RPG Maker Official Store, does purchasing an RPG Maker give you the standalone version (which is what I want) AND a steam key? It kind of looks like just a steam key the way it’s written, sorry if I am just misreading it.
You’re not misreading it. On the RPG Maker Official Store, MZ and MV are listed as the Steam version only, so after purchase you get a Steam key to redeem on Steam. There’s no standalone installer included.
If the standalone is what you’re after, from what I can see KOMODO Plaza still lists RPG Maker MZ with the standalone Windows version plus a Steam key. It’s a separate store from the Official Store though, so I’d reach out to their support before buying to confirm it’s still available and how updates for the standalone are handled.
Thanks for the response Baz, is that the same for the older Makers too like XP and VX Ace on the Official Store?
Yep, same for those. The XP and VX Ace pages on the Official Store both say you get a Steam key after purchase, no standalone. One thing worth knowing, the key can only be displayed within 180 days of purchase, so I’d redeem it or save it somewhere once you buy.
