RPG Tsukuru 200x/MZ Converter Questions and Requests Thread

The “RPG Maker 200x/MZ Converter” tool, which converts RPG Maker 2000 game projects to the RPG Maker MZ format, has been released!

Support for RPG Maker 2003 is planned for the future!

Why not remake your old, completed games in the latest format?

We are accepting questions about how to use this tool, bug reports, and suggestions for new features. We look forward to your feedback!

Thank you for starting this thread.
I have a few games I made in 2000 and 2003, so I would like to convert them.

For now, I’ll convert one game and write down what I think would be nice improvements.

  • The settings for the tools required for audio conversion are a bit difficult, so
    for individual conversions excluding audio,
it would be nice if it could work even without external tools being configured.
(Well, ultimately audio conversion is mandatory,
so it’s definitely good that the audio conversion feature is available,
but some people might prefer to use their familiar tools for conversion.)

  • The icons in the menu for mouse and touch hide the necessary information.
Some people might prefer the current setup, so
it would be helpful if we could choose whether to use an MZ-style UI that avoids window overlap or not.

  • The mandatory images added by the converter are deleted during the removal of unused files.
Currently, the ones I’ve confirmed are:
    system\Gaiji.png
    parallaxes\RM2K3_Mist.png
    parallaxes\RM2K3_Sandstorm.png
It seems MZ has a feature to register exceptions,
but it looks like you need to specify them for each deployment,
and for some reason, it’s not working properly. So, if you could provide an example of correct exception settings,
or since it seems like these are necessary files on the plugin side,
I’d like it if the plugin side could set them up to prevent deletion.

  • Some individual conversions of the database seem to require plugin initialization,
so they are being force-terminated as exceptions.
It would be helpful if the error message during the conversion of the relevant data indicated that the plugin initialization failed.

I have summarized the report here, so please refer to it.

Thank you for your reply.

・For individual conversions other than audio, I wish external tools were not required.
→ You can perform individual conversions for anything other than audio and movies by selecting “Settings → Advanced Settings” from the top menu and turning off “Check for the existence of conversion software” in the Common tab of the Advanced Settings dialog.

・The icons for mouse and touch in the menu hide necessary information.
→ We do not want to make the text smaller, so it seems difficult to fix this.

・The required images added by the converter are deleted when deleting unused files.
→ The option to “Exclude unused files” is not supported.

・Individual conversion of some databases seems to require plugin initialization, resulting in forced termination due to an exception.
→ We were unable to reproduce this issue, but forced termination due to an exception is likely a bug.

Thank you for your response.

→ By selecting “Settings → Advanced Settings” from the top menu and turning off “Check for the presence of conversion software” on the Common tab in the Advanced Settings dialog, you can convert files individually, except for audio and movie files.

Oh, I see there was a setting there. I missed it. Sorry about that.
Thank you very much.

I wanted to report some problems related to the symbol system that uses the Gaiji.png image that I only discovered because it was posted on an unofficial forum, as I hadn’t tested it myself.
The uppercase letters Y and Z do not correspond to the symbols in that position, so the person who found it edited the image to the corresponding position:

Gaiji

Another problem that occurs is that text that appears instantly in the dialog box generates the symbols before anything else, resulting in this:

This text was used to reproduce the problem:

\>A:$A B:$B C:$C D:$D E:$E F:$F G:$G H:$H I:$I J:$J
\>K:$K L:$L M:$M N:$N O:$O P:$P Q:$Q R:$R S:$S T:$T
\>U:$U V:$V W:$W X:$X Y:$Y Z:$Z

The characters have no shadows in the menus:

  • The capital letters Y and Z do not match the symbols at those positions.
→ This was an error in the plugin script. In Window_Base.prototype.processCharacter of RM2K_EC_Message.js, the code was set to "X".charCodeAt(0) instead of "Z".charCodeAt(0).

  • Text that appears immediately in the dialog box generates symbols before other elements.

  • There is no shadow on the characters in the menu.

→ We have confirmed this. We will look into fixing it.
