[MV/MZ] Light Editor — Real Wall-Blocked Light and Shadows, Placed Right on the Map (live editing during playtest, torches, windows, lamps, crystals and more)

Hi everyone!

I just released Light Editor, a plugin for RPG Maker MV/MZ. It’s a visual lighting editor that lets you place lights (light sources) directly on the map during a playtest, tune their color, radius, intensity and shadow in real time, and save the result right away.

Feature overview

Instead of the default flat map lighting, you can freely place torches, windows, lamps and crystals as light sources, with real shadows that are correctly blocked by walls and roofs. Lights are fixed to map coordinates rather than tied to events, so they stay stable on any map.

  • Live editing during a playtest: press F7 to open the editor, then click to place, select, drag and duplicate lights. Properties preview in real time.
  • 4 built-in presets: Torch, Window, Crystal and Lamp — all fully adjustable.
  • Real shadows that don’t leak through walls: tiles tagged with Terrain Tag 5, 6 or 7 block light. Torches mounted on a wall tile still light up correctly instead of shadowing themselves.
  • Wall surface glow, soft shadows and directional (cone) lights: penumbra via light source size, directional cones with angle and spread, plus linear or inverse-square falloff.
  • Undo/redo, automatic backups and browser JSON export are also supported.

Development background

I kept having to hand-build map lighting with events and pictures every time I wanted a bit of atmosphere, so I built an editor I could tune directly during a playtest instead. Wall blocking is based on Terrain Tags, so it doesn’t touch your tileset’s existing passage settings and stays compatible with other plugins.

This looks like a real time and headache saver! Is there any chance of porting to compatibility with MV?

 Thank you! Going to buy this on my next paycheck. This will be a huge QoL improvement in design.
