Which game that made you decide to use RPGMAKER and make your dream game?

Personally there were a lot of games that I got really inspired such as final fantasy especially VI, fire emblem, tales of series, trails in the sky and there’s this game.. (BAROQUE) this was a turning point for me to decide to take it seriously and work on my dream. It hurts a bit I couldn’t start earlier due lack of knowledge and having potato laptop

but after all, I managed to make something. not the best made but it’s just the beginning (hopefully I don’t quit). I saw a lot of solo devs using rpgmaker and they were helpful to me when I struggled while making the game.

honeslty I used RPGMAKER because It’s the only engine I know how to use since I had it on 3ds long ago (different from the real one here)

I like playing horror but that’s not what I create (maybe someday?)
maybe it’s just me but what I want to create is something that make the player forget everything and enjoying the moment since reality is the real horror

If anyone tries my game, I would appreciate to see what they think and if it changed their mood for better :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

(recommend your game here as well so I can try it)

Duuuuude Baroque is crazy, I still have to play it but I love it from afar already. Definitely a pick for aesthetics and crazy mechanics.

I think mine is just plain old Final Fantasy IV, just because it was my first RPG ever. Me and my brothers were always looking how to make games, dabbled with random stuff like batch files and Excel. Then finally my brother found this little program called RPG Maker 2000. Not telling anymore of that, prefer not to speak, but also I was 11 or so.

My first ever game was something ultra stupid it’s embarrassing and I did like two maps, but I think I wasn’t really inspired by anything, just playing with the program. My second project however (which had a similar fate) was called Zelda A Link to the Future, so you can imagine what that one was inspired by! Lol! Only I wasn’t doing any action RPG mechanics, just default front-view battles.

From there on, it’s a bit blurry. I remember multiple games I did before doing my current one. I just have no idea what I was smoking. Ujarrás the Zombie Hero, some other game I started using MIDI versions of songs I liked and had some REFMAP graphics.

EDIT: My current game is very SaGa inspired, with some Live a Live.

No particular game. For me, it was more like, “I like RPGs, this makes RPGs. It’s also only $5 or so on sale via steam” and the rest was history.

I FORGOT to add live a live as well it’s a legend! you may wanna play xenogears at this point
I feel like I’ve made you unlock some of your memories haha.
in my case I’m the only in my family who wants to create a game and they don’t like the idea of it because it’s hard to make a living out of it. creating a fangame is also fun but I scratched that idea since if I made one for KH I might get copyright strike or something :sob:

It was way back in the 90’s when a lot of good RPG’s were coming out, and I had played RPG Maker on PS1, but was more interested in the PC version (which wasn’t available yet in the US, but it had an illegal translation, which of course I downloaded).

Really liked playing good RPG’s with a good story and I wanted to make some stories and share them too, kind of the main motivation.

Also I’ve always really been into sci-fi but I saw that in the RPG realm there’s not a lot of sci-fi escpecially JRPG style, so I wanted to offer something in that category where a saw a gap could be filled, etc.

I’m old and grew up with RPGs like Ultima, D&D Gold Box, Gemstone Warriors, Wizardry, Dragon Warrior, Swords and Serpents, and Final Fantasy. These early RPGs still inspire me especially since they were often very difficult. Finishing these games all the way through was an accomplishment. I feel like these kinds of games nowadays are mostly just stories with some filler gameplay in-between cutscenes and don’t have much challenge and strategy built into them. Maybe I’ll be able to find my niche in that space

The thing that drew me into RPG Maker, though, was the fact that my friend and I almost created this exact software in the early 1990’s. It did most of the same things but was designed on a 286 IBM compatible for EGA (16 colors) monitors. It was meant to replicate Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The only thing that killed it was that in order to get to run really fast, my friend used Assembly language tied to his specific graphics card which meant that it wouldn’t run on anyone else’s machine. When MV came out, the franchise became popular enough that it came across my radar and I picked it up right away. I still haven’t finished my dream game but I’m actually working on it right now, or at least, I’ve been trying to re-enter it. Most of the programming work is done. I just need to do the boring part and actually make the game.

As far as sharing my games goes, I’d recommend Eremiel. It’s an action shoot-em-up as opposed to an RPG but it’s fun, especially if you play it with a gamepad.

If you just want to laugh and not actually play a game, Harold’s AI Odyssey is a good time.

Oh don’t you worry, I love Xenogears, I’m playing it again, first time I didn’t make it to disc 2. But I also watched a friend play through it, fell asleep a couple times since it was like 6am or so lol. But I got most of the story in my brain now.

If you asked me a couple years ago, I’d say without doubt SaGa is my favorite game series ever. Now it’s Xenogears. I kinda want to do a 3D RPG like it eventually. Can’t keep redesigning Dreki tho, so will have to be another one…

Xenogears was legit! One of my favorite games!

Dude, I really don’t miss the days when you had to write code on the hardware level, only to have to write the same things over and over again for every single architecture.

Old PC games used to have EGA, VGA, Hercules, Tandy… all the damn things lmao. Even with graphic cards having standards it was a pain!

I’m glad I was born in a world of DirectX, OpenGL and Vulkan. But also game engines or even frameworks did all that work for me anyway.

More games I love! Frick it!

Threads of Fate. I don’t have plans for something based on it, but I definitely could come up with something. I just don’t think I have the skills for comedy. That game is super funny.

When I was young, there were many games made with RPG Maker XP and 2003, which served as my introduction to the medium. Most of them were offline versions of certain online games. At the time, my parents didn’t allow me to play online games, so I had to secretly download some to play at home. Later, that sparked the idea of creating my own games.

Orochii! the more you mention games, the more I remember gems :sob: I preferred mint more than the dude ( I forgot his name). surprisingly no one mentioned chrono trigger?
since we are on the topic.
the world ends with you is possible to make in rpgmaker?

I mentioned this in the favorite rpg maker games thread. But the game that inspired me to start making my own was a game called Demons Roots. Its a NSFW game about demons returning to the world after a thousand years, only to find humanity under the heel of an evil even greater than they, an empire that runs on slavery, especially the sex trafficking kind of slavery. And the game does not shy away from the true horror of such things. Actually made me realise that real life historical slavery was probably alot worse than how it seems from history books. When someone owns another and can do what they want with them with no legal consequences, they often do alot worse than just forced labour.

You play as a Demon named Deathpolca, a general of the demonic army set to invade the human world to ensure the survival of demonkind. But ends up being a liberator from those suffering as slaves under the empire. The old enemy of humanity becoming its liberators.

Its a really dark game, even the censored version deals with very heavy subject matter. But it has a very compelling story and has among the most hatable antagonists in any game I have ever played. I would recommend this game for those who think they can handle a story about fighting a very real kind of evil for a fantasy setting.

I don’t usually go this dark with my own work, but after learning Demon’s Roots was made by a single person in RPG Maker MV. I realized I could probably learn how to use the same engine for my own games.

Me neither. I don’t think too many people are nostalgic for this.

Edit: Gonna have to figure out the quote system.

Rue, I hate that guy xD. Ok I say hate but my problem really is that he’s bland protagonist so comparatively he’s boring. Mint is just bratty and stuff, but she makes the game more fun in my opinion. Rue has a soapy sad story and even in Mint’s route I was tired of everyone rooting for him.

I have a thing against CT but I think it’s me hating all fans. When I played it by myself, without internet, I enjoyed it. I still love it, but the fact everyone is crazy for it makes me want to break it into pieces. I still have it physical, cart only, and I’d never get rid of it.

TWEWY is definitely doable in RPG Maker. Just would take a lot of effort in making the stylus mechanics using mouse/touch.

I don’t know this game but I try to not filter out NSFW game just because they’re NSFW. I think I’ve seen a couple with interesting mechanics, so even if 95% are shallow there’s a couple things here and there that stand out. I think in visual novels especially, a lot of denpa is NSFW so I also kinda learned to tolerate certain themes. Sounds interesting regardless.

Select the part you want to quote and click in the popup that appears under.

As much I’m not interested in NSFW, I like playing the game the way it is released. censored version is helpful when you have don’t have privacy or not wanting NSFW.

You should play baroque I really recommend it if you these type of stories.

glad you asked because I was struggling too. just do what Orochii said

For me it was the SNES and Genesis RPG’s. mainly Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy, Shining Force and some other ones that did stand out.
Though i heard so much about Baroque wasn’t there another game that was a prequel to baroque.

Now this is intresting  unless it’s the manga or the other baroque games ( are in Japanese)

There is a game called Baroque Syndrome, it looks more like a VN/adventure game, a Japanese version is actually available on the App Store. Not sure if that’s the prequel one, there’s also a small spin off game where you are a meta being and you jump through obstacles.

The nice thing about RPGmaker is that even if you’re a programmer, you save yourself a ton of work by using mechanics already coded for you. I still have the freedom to customize things to my liking

For me, I just like making games and the engine was easy to learn and it’s my favorite engine yet.
