Joypad input is not responding for some reason (v1.2.2.stable)

The controller input is not responding while running the game for some reason.

It responds and can be configured without issues in the input map, but becomes completely unresponsive when the game is running. (Keyboard input works fine.) It was working properly before, so it seems to have stopped responding after the update (v1.2.2.stable), but I have not been able to identify the cause.

If you know of any causes or solutions, I would appreciate it if you could share them.

Thank you in advance.

*Previously, someone else asked a similar question on this forum, and they resolved the issue by changing the Steam controller settings, but doing the same did not change my situation.

Is this an issue occurring during the test play, or in the game after the build?
If possible, could you check whether this occurs across all projects, and if so, whether it also happens when using the beta branch with an earlier version such as 1.1.15?

Thank you, Moonling-san

The symptoms described above occurred during the test play. (I apologize for the incomplete explanation.)

The issue is occurring across all other projects as well. As you suggested, I reverted to the previous version 1.1.15 using the beta branch and re-ran the game, but the situation remained the same. Keyboard input and gamepad input via the input map are both accepted without issue.

If there are any possible solutions, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Currently, we have not received any other reports, and the issue still seems to be related to Steam’s Input system…

If the game builds and runs without issues, it is likely a Steam-related problem. Would it be possible for you to try this?

Also, regarding the previous post you mentioned trying, does that mean you have already attempted to disable Steam Input for the controller in the Steam ACTION GAME MAKER properties?

Thank you for your response.

I applied the latest updated version (v1.2.3.stable) just now, built the project, and ran it, but the situation remains unchanged. (The same issue occurred during test play as well.)

I also set the Steam controller settings to “Disable Steam Input,” but the problem persists.

Since no one else has reported this issue, it might be due to my local environment. However, what is puzzling is that keyboard input and the input map correctly respond to controller input (meaning the controller input is basically functioning properly). If you can identify any potential cause, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Once I resolve the issue, I will report it here as well.

By the way, I understand that Windows has two controller input standards: “XInput” and “DirectInput.” Could these be related to this issue? (My environment uses a wired USB connection with an Xbox controller, so I believe it should be using XInput…)

If the game does not work even after building it, the issue is likely not on Steam’s side.
Since the input is being detected in the input map, and it previously worked correctly but is not a version-related issue, it appears to be some environmental factor on beep’s PC.

Please try updating the controller drivers (for an Xbox controller, this might be via Xbox Accessories).
Alternatively, if you have another controller available, please try using a different one if possible.

By the way, is the controller working properly in other games?

The issue was resolved by updating the Xbox controller driver as you pointed out.

Since some drivers were already functioning correctly, I didn’t consider that possibility.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

In case it helps others, I’m sharing the steps that resolved the issue:

How to Install/Update Xbox Controller Drivers (Manual Update/Reinstallation)

Device Manager > “Xbox Peripherals” > Right-click on “Xbox Game Devices” > Select “Update Driver” or “Uninstall Device,” then reconnect.

Thank you very much for your support. I look forward to your continued guidance.
