Godot License Terms

I am a new player who purchased Act 7 during the Steam Autumn Sale.

I am currently reading the Terms of Service, and I understand that for Act 7, it is necessary to comply not only with GGG’s Terms of Service but also with Godot’s license conditions regarding the Godot Engine used internally.

Therefore, I have a question regarding the notices that need to be included in the documentation or other materials for the game I am creating. While I was able to confirm the announcement content specified in GGG’s official terms, I am confused about what specific content needs to be included for Godot.

Based on my understanding, should I include the announcement content specified in GGG’s terms in the documents attached to the game, along with the following text regarding Godot?

Is my understanding correct?

Also, if there are any other license notices or warnings required for Godot, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Yes, that text is correct for Godot itself. From what I’ve been reading, GGG’s terms say their terms don’t apply to the Godot Engine part and the MIT License applies instead, and what you quoted is the MIT License exactly as Godot publishes it. Godot’s own guide puts one line in front of it, “This game uses Godot Engine, available under the following license:”, so I’d add that line too.

Where it goes is flexible. Godot’s guide accepts a credits screen, a licenses screen in the settings, a text file included with the game, or a printed manual, and any one of those is enough. Godot also says a link to License – Godot Engine in your game’s documentation or credits is an acceptable way to satisfy it.

For the “anything else” part, Godot bundles some outside libraries, like FreeType for fonts, that carry their own notices. Godot’s guide recommends including its COPYRIGHT.txt file with your game, renamed to something like GODOT_COPYRIGHT.txt so it isn’t mistaken for your own files. ACTION GAME MAKER has been on Godot 4.7 since version 1.4.0, so this is the matching file:

Thank you for your reply!

I will add the following sentence to the text above: “This game uses Godot Engine, available under the following license:”

I also plan to include the text of the external libraries you provided.

And I should also include GGG’s copyright notice, etc., right?

It’s all clear now. I can now study game development without any worries.

Yes, that’s right. GGG’s terms ask for “©2025 Gotcha Gotcha Games Inc.” in the documentation included with your game, or if there isn’t any, in a help file or somewhere the player can see it. I’d probably just put it in the same file as the Godot notice.
