Nice rainy day. Definitely not going to the beach. Staying inside with some quality time on the computer doing sound effects. The question is---- I use Audacity (the price is right, free). What does everyone else use ?
I use Audacity too! For source SFX I usually pull from these (check the specific license on whatever clip you grab since some require attribution):
- Kenney.nl (CC0, no attribution required)
- Sonniss GDC bundles (free pro packs released yearly)
- Freesound.org (filter by CC0 to keep things simple)
- OpenGameArt (game focused, mixed licenses)
- Zapsplat (free with credit, account required)
- SoundBible (Public Domain and Creative Commons mix)
- Pixabay Sound Effects (no attribution needed)
- BBC Sound Effects (RemArc license, commercial allowed)
- Mixkit (their own free license)
For procedural retro/8-bit stuff, Bfxr and ChipTone are quick and the output is fully yours to use.
For AI generated SFX, ElevenLabs is the popular one. A few others worth checking:
- Stable Audio
- Adobe Firefly Sound Effects (Adobe says outputs are commercially safe since it’s trained on licensed data)

Thank You BAZ. A few here I have not used before. Maybe you can start a Resource Tab in the Categories section for this.
